Low pressure and water outages in northern Cancún, Playa Mujeres and Isla Mujeres due to Kusamil II works

Aguakan is connecting a 20-inch line; service will return gradually, with no set time for full recovery.

Residents of dozens of supermanzanas (city blocks) in northern and western Cancún, as well as Playa Mujeres, Condominios Punta Sam and Isla Mujeres, may experience low water pressure or supply interruptions since Tuesday, October 6, according to water utility Aguakan. The cause is interconnection work on the supply line that feeds the Kusamil II development.

Areas that may be affected

According to the utility's notice:

  • Supermanzanas 90, 104–107, 206–218, 222–240, 245–250, 253 and 260.
  • Supermanzanas 313–327, 332–336 and 500–531.
  • Playa Mujeres and Condominios Punta Sam.
  • Isla Mujeres.

When will water be back?

Aguakan did not give an end time. In an update the same Tuesday, the company said its technical crews were still on site making final adjustments to the 20-inch supply line. Once the connection is finished, it explained, service will come back little by little as tank levels recover and pipes are pressurized, so some neighborhoods will get water before others.

What to do if you live in the area

  • Ration what is in your rooftop tank or cistern: prioritize drinking, cooking and basic hygiene until pressure normalizes.
  • Don't leave taps open: when water returns intermittently, open faucets can cause leaks or waste in empty homes.
  • When service resumes, let the water run a few seconds if you notice air or cloudiness in the pipes.
  • If your neighborhood is still dry after nearby areas have recovered, report it so there is a record.

Where to report

Aguakan takes reports at 073, at (998) 891 4860 for Cancún and Isla Mujeres, and on its official accounts @DHCAGUAKAN on Facebook and X, plus its WhatsApp channel.

For northern Cancún residents, the practical advice is not to wait until the tank runs dry: the staggered recovery the company itself describes can take several hours after the work ends, especially in higher or more distant parts of the network.
