El Buen Fin 2026 prize draw: Mexico's tax agency will hand out 500 million pesos to shoppers who pay by card Nov. 13–17
Purchases of at least 250 pesos with a debit or credit card at registered micro and small businesses enter automatically. The draw is Dec. 4.
Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) confirmed it will hold the El Buen Fin 2026 prize draw, with a total pool of 500 million pesos split into more than 300,000 prizes for consumers and businesses. To enter, simply pay with a debit or credit card for a purchase of at least 250 pesos between Nov. 13 and 17 at registered micro and small businesses.
How much you can win
According to the SAT, the top prize for cardholders is 250,000 pesos, and 260,000 pesos for a winning business. The rest of the pool is divided into smaller prizes.
Key dates
- Nov. 12: last day for businesses to register at elbuenfin.org.
- Nov. 13–17: purchase period that counts toward the draw.
- Nov. 27: starting this day you can check whether your purchase was recorded, using your card number (or RFC tax ID for businesses).
- Dec. 4, noon: draw in Mexico City, streamed on SAT's social media.
- Dec. 7: results published.
- Before Jan. 5, 2027: prizes deposited.
Under the rules, prizes are transferred to the same card or account used for the purchase. There is no sign-up or form: entry is automatic.
What it means for you in Cancún
The detail many people miss is that not every card purchase qualifies: only those made at registered micro and small businesses count. If you want a shot at the draw, ask the shop, restaurant or neighborhood store whether it is registered for El Buen Fin before paying.
Practical tips:
- Pay by card, not cash; cash purchases do not qualify.
- Keep your receipt for every purchase of 250 pesos or more.
- Check only on official sites: gob.mx/sorteoelbuenfin and sat.gob.mx. Be wary of messages, calls or links claiming you won and asking for your PIN, security code or a fee to "release" the prize: the deposit goes straight to your card.
- If you run a small business in Cancún, registration closes Nov. 12; businesses can win too.
Before shopping, remember that the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) has launched tools to compare prices and check that El Buen Fin discounts are real. Buying just to enter the draw is not always worth it: compare prices, check the total cost if you pay in installments and avoid taking on too much debt.
