Janal Pixan 2026 in Cancún: venues, hours and cemeteries, Oct. 30–Nov. 2

City Hall expects about 200,000 visitors across Puerto Juárez, Parque de las Palapas and municipal cemeteries; Los Olivos will stay open 24 hours.

Day of the Dead altars at Puerto Juárez, Cancún

Cancún's municipal Day of the Dead festival, Janal Pixan 2026, will run from Friday, October 30, to Monday, November 2, at three venues — Puerto Juárez, Parque de las Palapas and the municipal cemeteries — the Benito Juárez City Council announced after an inspection tour led by Mayor Ana Paty Peralta.

According to the municipal government, this fourth edition will feature altars, a costume contest, a food pavilion, a maritime procession and a theater performance, with more than 50 local artists taking part. City Hall estimates roughly 200,000 visitors across all venues.

Hours by venue

Puerto Juárez (main venue, Calle 45 pier)

  • October 30 to November 2.
  • Pier activities from 6:00 p.m.; main stage from 6:00 to 11:30 p.m.
  • The maritime arrival and the play El camino de los abuelos ("The Path of the Ancestors") will be staged here. The mayor said seating has been doubled to hold up to 2,500 people, due to demand in previous years.

Parque de las Palapas ("Cena de Ánimas")

  • October 31 and November 1, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Municipal cemeteries

  • Los Olivos: open 24 hours on November 1 and 2.
  • Los Álamos and Parque Funerario: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on November 1 and 2.

"It will be spectacular — we'll have a food pavilion, our altars and the parade," Peralta said during the inspection, which included the Fire Department, Traffic, Commerce and the Culture and Arts Institute.

Before you go: practical tips

The official announcement does not detail road closures or parking, so plan ahead:

  • Arrive early at Puerto Juárez if you want a seat; the 2,500-seat stands are far smaller than the expected festival turnout.
  • Consider public transit, a taxi or carpooling: the Puerto Juárez area also handles traffic to the Isla Mujeres ferry terminals.
  • If you plan to visit loved ones at Los Álamos or Parque Funerario, note they close at 5:00 p.m.; Los Olivos is the only overnight option.
  • Check the weather: State Civil Protection forecasts rain and showers with lightning around these dates; bring a rain jacket and follow staff instructions if a storm hits.
  • In an emergency, call 911.

Janal Pixan ("food of the souls" in Maya) is how the Yucatán Peninsula marks the return of the departed, with altars and dishes such as mucbipollo.
