Scheduled Water Outages in Cancún: How to Know If Your Area Is Affected

Aguakan carries out network maintenance during the rainy season; there are channels to check and prepare.

Maintenance work on the drinking water network in Cancún

The utility Aguakan periodically performs electromechanical maintenance and interconnection work on the drinking water network in Cancún, Isla Mujeres and other municipalities in northern Quintana Roo —tasks that can cause low pressure or a temporary loss of service in various neighborhoods while they are underway.

This work is part of the system's normal operation, and when it is scheduled the company announces it in advance, stating the date, time, reason and the areas that could be left without water for a few hours. Unplanned disruptions can also occur due to electrical failures in the pumping equipment.

How to know if your area will be affected: Aguakan provides the 073 phone line, where you can confirm whether your street or neighborhood is included in a scheduled outage and clear up questions; it also posts notices on its official channels and offers a virtual office on its website to check your account, report leaks and follow up on reports without visiting a service center.

How to avoid running out of water: when an outage is announced, store clean water in covered containers a day in advance, prioritize essential use (hygiene and food) during the work hours, and avoid running the washing machine or watering during the cut. If pressure takes a while to normalize after service is restored, that is normal in the first hours; if the water comes out with sediment, let the tap nearest the intake run for a few minutes. Reporting street leaks to 073 also helps protect the supply for the whole neighborhood, especially in this season of higher demand and rain.
