Quintana Roo Strengthens Search for Missing Persons and Support for Families

The Interior Ministry and the state Search Commission say they keep direct contact with families and collectives to receive and act on requests.

The Government of Quintana Roo reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the search for missing persons and support for their families, marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, observed on August 30.

According to the Interior Ministry, led by Cristina Torres Gómez, the strategy relies on institutional coordination to provide close attention to families and collectives. The office said it maintains "direct communication with families and collectives to receive requests, hear their concerns" and to carry out search operations coordinated with other authorities. Support includes legal and psychological assistance, plus coordination with other states when a case requires it.

The State Search Commission of Quintana Roo (CBPEQROO), headed by Hayde Cristina Saldaña Martínez, is the body responsible for channeling requests and following up on cases. The statement came under the administration of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.

What it means for families and how to seek help:

  • Report right away: when a person goes missing, there is no need to wait 72 hours to file a report. The State Attorney General's Office and the Search Commission can begin the search immediately.
  • Who to contact: the CBPEQROO receives reports and search requests and accompanies families and collectives throughout the process.
  • Details that help: full name, a recent photo, physical description, the clothing and items the person was last seen with, and the place and time of last contact.
  • Emergencies: any dangerous situation can be reported immediately by calling 911.

This reinforcement comes as families' collectives in the state have publicly pressed for more resources and results in location efforts. This coverage is provided with a public-service focus and respect for victims, without assigning responsibilities not established by the authorities.
