Hyatt Zilara Cancún reopens after a renovation of more than $80 million
Grupo Tortuga's hotel is back in operation with 310 rooms and suites, 12 restaurants and a convention space for 630 people.
The Hyatt Zilara Cancún, owned by Grupo Tortuga, reopened on October 21, 2026 after a renovation involving an investment of more than $80 million, the Benito Juárez city government reported. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta attended the ceremony.
According to the city, the property, part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, now offers 310 rooms and suites across 11 categories, 12 specialty restaurants, a spa of more than 2,000 square meters and convention space for 630 people.
What officials said
Peralta described the investment as "a very important bet for our destination" and tied it to job opportunities in hospitality. Quintana Roo Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto Riestra highlighted coordination between business and government to create favorable investment conditions, and Grupo Tortuga CEO Leonardo Schlesinger expressed the company's confidence in Cancún's potential, according to the city's release.
What it means for Cancún
Hospitality is the city's main source of jobs, and reopening a property of this size usually means hiring in kitchens, housekeeping, maintenance, front desk and spa, plus work for local suppliers. The official release did not say how many jobs the reopening creates.
Renovating existing inventory — rather than building new — is one way the destination seeks to stay competitive against other beach markets.
