Bancomext Extended 150 Billion Pesos in Credit to Exporters in the First Half of 2026
The development bank reported net earnings of 3.429 billion pesos and a past-due loan ratio of 1.57 percent, below the banking system average.
The National Bank of Foreign Trade (Bancomext), a federal development bank, said it channeled more than 150 billion pesos in credit to firms tied to foreign trade between January and June 2026. The institution disclosed the figure in its first-half financial report.
According to the official breakdown, 51 percent of those resources —equivalent to 76.292 billion pesos— were granted through first-tier banking, meaning directly from Bancomext to the final borrower. Another 36 percent, 54.266 billion pesos, was channeled as second-tier banking, distributed through financial intermediaries. The remaining 13 percent, 19.524 billion pesos, was placed under the guarantees and induced credit scheme.
By company size, 107.991 billion pesos —two of every three pesos placed— went to large exporters; 21.049 billion to small companies; 11.575 billion to medium-sized firms and 9.467 billion to microenterprises. The institution reported net earnings of 3.429 billion pesos and a Past-Due Loan Ratio (IMOR) of 1.57 percent, an indicator that measures the share of the portfolio with overdue payments and that stands below the Mexican banking system's average.
What it means for businesses in the Mexican Caribbean. Bancomext offers financing to export sectors and to companies that generate foreign currency, a group that includes the tourism industry that sustains Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum. Product lines cover working capital, equipment purchases and modernization projects, with medium- and long-term maturities and rates. Tourism operators, hoteliers, suppliers to the meetings industry and regional goods exporters can access these products directly at the bank's offices or through commercial banks operating as second-tier intermediaries.
How to review the programs. Bancomext's product catalog, requirements and regional contacts are available on its official website (bancomext.com), in the "Financial solutions" section, as well as in public bulletins the institution publishes on the Ministry of Finance's site (gob.mx/shcp). For SMEs that do not yet export but plan to, the bank runs the PyMEx program, which offers free technical advice and preferential credit terms.
