Quintana Roo's State Tourism Registry (RETUR-Q) issued 3,369 registration certificates during the first half of 2026, matching in just six months the total for all of 2025, the state Tourism Ministry (SEDETUR) reported on July 24.
The pace of registrations has been accelerating for years: according to the agency, 2025 closed 41 percent above 2024, which in turn grew 17 percent over 2023. The ministry attributes the surge to the sector's confidence in a roster it says is driving a more orderly, professional and competitive tourism industry.
Who must register
All individuals and businesses providing tourism services in Quintana Roo are called to enroll: hotels and other lodging, travel agencies, tour guides, tour operators, rental companies, tourist-oriented restaurants and transport providers, among others. In an economy like Cancún's and the Riviera Maya's, that ranges from large chains to the independent guide or small tour operator.
How the process works and what you get
Registration is free and fully online at the official portal siturq.gob.mx, which also publishes the catalog of registered providers — a useful tool for tourists themselves, who can check whether a provider is enrolled before booking.
Being on the roster unlocks no-cost benefits: participation in national and international tourism fairs and events, promotional activities, a direct line to SEDETUR, and free training courses, workshops, webinars and forums.
Context
RETUR-Q has operated since August 2022 and mirrors the National Tourism Registry, which Mexican law makes mandatory for tourism service providers nationwide. For local tourism workers and entrepreneurs, the certificate is increasingly requested in bids, agreements and industry support programs, so registering early avoids headaches when the document is needed on short notice.
