Avenida Yaxchilán, in Cancún's founding district, will host the Taco Festival (Fiesta del Taco) on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Benito Juárez city hall announced. The event is organized by the administrative unit of the Distrito Cancún project.

According to the city, the program includes:
- Taco Social Run, a tour of 11 participating taquerías.
- A mechanical bull.
- A Mexican-style kermés (fair).
- A cultural show.
- An artisans' pavilion.
Participating businesses are El Poblano, Picaña & Grill, Pescaditos, Autóctona, Carmen Enchiladería, Masa Azul, Coapeñitos, Socio Naiz, Pescas, PatoPaloma and La Parrilla.
The official announcement does not mention prices or whether streets will be closed; check city hall's channels in the days before.
Planning your visit
Yaxchilán is one of downtown's busiest streets on weekends thanks to its bars and restaurants, so expect heavier traffic and less parking those nights.
- Take public transit, a taxi or walk if you live in nearby downtown supermanzanas; Tulum, Cobá and Uxmal avenues surround the area.
- If driving, arrive early and avoid parking in no-parking zones or in front of driveways.
- Bring cash as well as a card: not every stall or artisan accepts electronic payments.
- If you bring children, agree on a meeting point in case you get separated in the crowd.
- Mind the weather: afternoon and evening showers are still common in October; check the forecast before heading out.
Why it matters
The Distrito Cancún project aims to revive the city's original core, home to traditional businesses that compete with the Hotel Zone and shopping malls. Events like this bring foot traffic to downtown local businesses.
