SAT deadlines in September: the 17th for August payments and the 30th for the DIOT, key dates for Cancún businesses
RESICO taxpayers, individuals with business activity and companies must file their monthly returns to avoid surcharges and penalties.
September brings tax deadlines worth marking on the calendar, especially for the thousands of small businesses, landlords and fee-based workers in Cancún and the Riviera Maya. According to the Tax Administration Service (SAT), September 17, 2026 is the deadline to file the monthly returns for August and make the corresponding payment, in line with the Federal Tax Code.
Who it applies to. Taxpayers under the Simplified Trust Regime (RESICO) must comply by that date; they calculate their income tax on income actually collected in August at rates of 1% to 2.5% depending on the amount, plus VAT and payroll withholdings where applicable. Individuals with business and professional activity and companies that make provisional payments are also covered. A second key date is September 30, when the Informative Return of Operations with Third Parties (DIOT) is due for those subject to VAT obligations.
What it means for Cancún. In an economy dominated by tourism, hospitality and services, many residents are their own bosses: guides, drivers, small-shop owners, lodging providers and independent professionals. Filing on time avoids surcharges, inflation adjustments and penalties, and keeps you able to issue invoices and obtain the compliance opinion often required by corporate clients and credit programs.
How to comply smoothly. Returns are filed online through the SAT portal using your e.firma or password; the system pre-loads your invoice (CFDI) information, which speeds up the calculation, but it's worth checking that income and expenses are complete before submitting. Practical tips: don't leave it to the last day, as the portal gets congested near the deadline; confirm in advance that your e.firma is valid; and if a payment is owed, generate the capture line and settle it at the bank or by transfer within the deadline. For questions, SAT offers free guidance by phone (MarcaSAT), chat on its portal, and appointments at its offices.
