Quintana Roo Readies Auction of 130-Plus Vehicles: How to Take Part
The Finance and Planning Secretariat is preparing its third public auction for late September; base prices will be announced after August 25.
The Quintana Roo government, through its Finance and Planning Secretariat (SEFIPLAN), is preparing its third public vehicle auction for late September, with a preliminary lot of between 135 and 146 units no longer needed by state agencies. The sale is slated for the Centro Bellavista in Chetumal.
According to the department, appraisals are underway to set each unit's base value and define the sale format, which could be by open outcry or sealed bids. The final number of vehicles and their starting prices will be released after August 25, so interested buyers should watch the official portal in the coming days.
Under the rules used in prior auctions, any Mexican individual or company with the legal capacity to enter into contracts may participate, provided they have no involvement in the acts related to the auction process.
How to prepare. For anyone seeking an affordable used car, a government auction can be an option, but it pays to be careful. Before bidding, review the full rules —usually published by SEFIPLAN— to learn registration requirements, payment methods, deadlines to pay and pick up the unit, and the "as-is" condition in which vehicles are handed over. It is advisable to attend the preview to physically inspect the vehicle and, if possible, confirm it carries no outstanding debts or tickets before committing to a bid.
Proceeds from these sales, according to the state government, go toward renewing agencies' vehicle fleets. Official rules and the final schedule are published on the state government's auction portal.
