Peace and Voluntary Disarmament Fair arrives today in Calderitas: anonymous weapons and toy exchange

The 'Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace' program arrives on July 29 at the Colonia Veracruz dome in Calderitas, Othón P. Blanco, as part of the Peace and Voluntary Disarmament Fairs run by the state government and the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System (SESESC).
The purpose of the operation is for families to anonymously turn in firearms, ammunition, cartridges and grenades in exchange for a monetary incentive that can reach 33,000 pesos, depending on the type and caliber of the weapon. War toys are also accepted in exchange for educational and sports toys for children.
The head of the Interior Ministry, Cristina Torres Gómez, opened the state-wide round on July 27 and stressed that the drop-off is anonymous, with no investigation or legal consequences for participants. At the booths, each weapon is placed in a sealed bag and later destroyed in front of witnesses, following the national methodology coordinated by the federal Public Security Ministry (SSPC).
Hours and upcoming venues
The fairs run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. After Calderitas, the route continues on July 30 at the Nicolás Bravo dome and on July 31 at Aarón Merino Fernández park, in Chetumal. A total of 14 fairs are scheduled at public domes and parks, with later stops in Playa del Carmen, Benito Juárez, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and José María Morelos.
What to bring and what to expect
SESESC recommended transporting the weapon unloaded and inside a sealed bag, without displaying it in public. Each fair sets up around 30 service tables from the three levels of government, offering legal counsel, health services, social programs and cultural activities for families who attend.
So far, the state government reported that the opening rounds of the program ended with the recovery of short and long firearms and live cartridges, and with residents taking advantage of the parallel citizen services. The next stage after Othón P. Blanco will be announced by SESESC through its official channels.
