Families in Cancún and across Quintana Roo will be able to draw up their will at a preferential rate during September and October, after the state government and the Notaries Council signed an agreement to strengthen the 'September and October, Months of the Will' program. According to state authorities, the goal is to make this legal instrument easier to access and to prevent family disputes over the transfer of assets.

The Notaries Council agreed on a single fee of 3,000 pesos plus VAT to prepare an open public will. The benefit is aimed at Mexican citizens residing in Quintana Roo who execute their will before any of the state's public notaries. The agreement takes effect on September 1 and remains in force until the end of October 2026. The Government Secretariat will support the effort with the campaign 'I Make My Will, I Provide Patrimonial Security'.

Why it matters to you: a will defines who inherits your home, land, vehicle, or savings, and spares your relatives from long, costly probate proceedings if you leave nothing in writing. Outside this campaign, the procedure is usually more expensive, so these two months offer real savings.

What you need and where to go: you generally need valid official ID, CURP, birth certificate, and the details of the people you wish to name as heirs. To find the list of participating notaries and procedure details, check with Quintana Roo's Directorate General of Notaries or go directly to any public notary in the state starting September 1. It's advisable to book an appointment early, as demand rises during these months.
