More than 16,000 people rode it on day one. Starting Tuesday, Oct. 27, it's card-only: 15 pesos for the first trip and 7.50 for the first transfer.
Cancún's new MOBI Route 17 Leona Vicario carried more than 16,000 riders on its first day of service, Monday, Oct. 20, according to the Quintana Roo state government. Rides are free through Sunday, Oct. 26, and fares begin Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Rafael Hernández Kotasek, director of the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (IMOVEQROO), oversaw the launch and announced the fares that take effect after the trial period.
The route
According to the state government, the line runs 44.05 kilometers between Isla Hawái, near the Arco Norte, and Plaza Las Américas. It crosses 99 neighborhoods with 85,796 homes, 148 schools and 8,634 businesses, serving an estimated 242,821 residents.
Thirty buses run 21 hours a day, from 4:00 a.m. to 1:20 a.m. A bus comes roughly every 5.5 minutes at peak hours and every 12 minutes off-peak.

What to do if you plan to ride
- Get your card before Oct. 27. Payment is card-only. IMOVEQROO says 247 stores sell or reload it, including OXXO, Dunosusa, 7-Eleven, GoMart, SIX and Súper Willys.
- Use the free week to try the route and time your commute to work or school.
- Students and seniors should check how to get the social fare before fares start, so they don't pay the general rate.
- Plan your transfers: if you combine routes within three hours, you only pay for the first trip and the first transfer.
For residents of the city's northern and western neighborhoods, the route offers a direct link to the Plaza Las Américas area, one of Cancún's busiest shopping and transfer hubs.
