48 lifeguards watch over Cancun's public beaches from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
City hall reinforced the operation with Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel providing prevention, water rescue and prehospital care; waves today are forecast at 2 to 4 feet.
A total of 48 lifeguards watch Cancun's public beaches every day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Benito Juarez municipal government reported: 30 from municipal Civil Protection with two supervisors, and 18 from the Fire Department, deployed at spots including Playa Marlín and the rest of the municipality's public beaches.
According to city hall, the personnel provide prevention, water rescue, prehospital care and tourist orientation, along with permanent monitoring of sea conditions. Acting mayor Landy Guadalupe Canché Pantoja said the lifeguards' daily work is "fundamental to prevent accidents, orient visitors and respond promptly to emergencies."
The municipality added that beaches also receive regular sand sifting, waste collection and sargassum removal, in coordination with federal maritime authorities.

For this Sunday, the state Civil Protection coordination forecasts waves of 2 to 4 feet along Quintana Roo's coast, easterly winds gusting to 40 km/h, and showers with lightning in the northern zone. During an electrical storm, the rule is to leave the water immediately: open water is one of the most dangerous places during a strike.

Swim only in areas with a lifeguard tower and within surveillance hours; respect the flag system at the tower (red: do not enter the sea; yellow: caution; green: normal conditions) and ask the lifeguard if you are unsure about currents. If a rip current catches you, do not swim against it: move parallel to the shore until you exit the current, then head back in. In a beach emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest tower.
