La Gran Escapada Left 2.75 Billion Pesos in Quintana Roo; Cancun, Tulum and Isla Mujeres Led Sales
276 businesses in the state joined the national discount campaign, with markdowns up to 60% and the highest share of digital sales in the country, tourism officials report.
The national domestic-tourism strategy La Gran Escapada 2026 generated an economic impact of more than 2.752 billion pesos in Quintana Roo, with 276 participating businesses, the state Tourism Secretariat (SEDETUR) reported. Cancun, Tulum and Isla Mujeres were the most active destinations during the campaign, held June 18-21.
La Gran Escapada is the campaign promoted by Mexico's federal government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to encourage Mexicans to travel within the country through packages and discounts that reached up to 60% this edition. Nationwide, the strategy produced 44 billion pesos in economic impact — 10% more than in 2025 — with 6,557 participating businesses and 114,000 tourism experiences on offer, according to official figures.
SEDETUR head Bernardo Cueto Riestra said the results confirm the state's leadership in national tourism and reflect the sector's competitiveness and its adaptation to consumer trends.
The standout stat: Quintana Roo leads in digital sales
One detail sets the state apart this edition: 10% of offers were sold exclusively online — the highest share of digital sales among participating states — and another 53% combined digital and in-person channels. For local service providers, the signal is clear: domestic tourists increasingly compare and book from their phones.
What it means for those who live off tourism in Cancun
Domestic tourism is the summer cushion for hotels, restaurants, transportation providers and parks during hurricane season, when international arrivals tend to soften. An economic impact of this size over four days translates into tips, overtime and occupancy for thousands of workers in the sector. SEDETUR said strategies to strengthen domestic tourism will continue, so local businesses — from tour operators to family-run eateries — should watch for upcoming calls to join as participating establishments and get listed on the campaign's official platforms.
