Galaxias del Sol avenue work hits 45%: crews now between Madero and Lakín
The city finished the Chac Mool–Madero stretch and is working on the second phase, including 15 stormwater wells.
Rehabilitation of Galaxias del Sol avenue in Cancún is 45% complete, the Benito Juárez city government reported on September 30, 2026, during an inspection by Mayor Ana Paty Peralta and Public Works Secretary Samantha Hernández Cardeña.
According to city hall, the first phase, from Chac Mool avenue to Madero avenue, is finished. The second phase, from Madero avenue to Lakín avenue, is under construction.
What the project includes
Official figures list:
- 18,858.92 m² of new asphalt, 7 centimeters thick.
- 15 absorption wells so rainwater can drain into the subsoil.
- 12,826.57 linear meters of road markings (lanes and crosswalks).
- 782.70 linear meters of curbs.
- 48 road signs.
- Relocation of 3 concrete poles.
The city noted the avenue was a frequent request from residents.
Why it matters
The absorption wells are especially relevant this week: on September 29, Cancún received an average of 89 mm of rain and several avenues flooded, according to the city. In a city without an extensive storm sewer system, these wells are the main way water is cleared from streets.
If you drive through the area
- The Madero–Lakín stretch is still under construction: expect lane reductions, machinery and workers.
- Follow temporary signs and slow down.
- With this week's rain, avoid stretches with loose dirt or standing water.
- To report potholes, damaged signs or other road issues, call city hall at (998) 881 28 00.
