Cancun's DIF to make free ocular prostheses in October; screenings on Oct. 14
Specialists from UNAM and the Autonomous University of Campeche will treat people who lost an eye or have maxillofacial defects; each prosthesis is worth up to 30,000 pesos.
The DIF Benito Juarez family-services agency will hold a new round of its 2026 Ocular Prosthesis Medical Program, free of charge: medical screenings will take place on Tuesday, October 14, starting at 8:00 a.m., and the prostheses will be made October 15–18 at the Ocular Prosthesis Clinic in the DIF's Salon de la Familia, Supermanzana 94, Cancun, the municipal government said.
Who it is for
According to the municipal DIF, the program serves people who are missing an eyeball due to congenital causes, illness, infection or accident, as well as people with maxillofacial defects. The service is completely free; the agency says such a prosthesis has a market value of 25,000 to 30,000 pesos.
Care will be provided by doctors from the Maxillofacial Prosthesis Division of UNAM's School of Dentistry and specialists from the Autonomous University of Campeche.
