'Comuna Juventud' opens in SM 77, Quintana Roo's first youth center with a dining hall and labs
The space for people aged 12 to 29 offers a student dining hall, robotics, programming and free psychological care.
CANCÚN, Q. ROO. — Cancún unveiled "Comuna Juventud," presented as Quintana Roo's first Integral Development Center for Youth, located in Supermanzana 77. The space is aimed at people aged 12 to 29 and brings together educational, food, technology and emotional-health services free of charge.
Its facilities include a student dining hall with capacity for 200 students, offering breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday during the school year; a STEM cinema with three-dimensional projection; a programming, electronics and Internet of Things lab with 15 workstations; and an educational robotics area with robotic arms and a 3D printer. It also includes cultural, sports and psychological services.
The center represented an investment of 13 million pesos and, according to authorities, will directly benefit more than 2,000 young people, with estimated annual technology access for over 12,000 residents.
Why it matters. The project targets a twofold local problem: school dropout for economic reasons — which the dining hall aims to ease — and the lack of safe, free spaces where teens can build in-demand digital skills such as programming and electronics. For many families in the area, access to equipment like 3D printers or IoT stations would otherwise be out of reach.
How to get involved. City Hall has not yet published the details on requirements, hours and enrollment for each workshop or for the student dining hall. In the meantime, interested families can seek guidance directly in Supermanzana 77 or call the Benito Juárez City Hall at (998) 881-28-00 to ask about spots and activity start dates.
