Cancún keeps property-tax discounts available all year to clear back debts

The Benito Juárez city government announced it will keep its property-tax (predial) regularization campaign active all year in Cancún, following strong turnout from taxpayers who took advantage of the facilities to settle overdue balances.

According to the Municipal Treasury, in the first months of the year more than 15,000 owners cleared their status thanks to discounts of 100% on fines and 50% on surcharges. Given the demand, authorities decided to keep the benefit available beyond the originally planned deadline, so those carrying several years of debt can pay it off without the weight of penalties.

At the same time, the Treasury continues cleaning up the cadastral registry to remove keys that correspond to roadways, donation areas and public spaces—properties that should not generate a charge—so the registry reflects only the real estate that actually owes the tax.

Getting current prevents the debt from growing with monthly surcharges and is a requirement for procedures like selling a property, obtaining certificates or accessing other municipal services.

• Always verify the amount and keep your official payment receipt.
