City planning institute IMPLAN invites residents to ride on October 17 from City Hall for World Breast Cancer Day; health specialists will staff an information booth.

Benito Juárez City Hall, through its Municipal Urban Planning Institute (IMPLAN), is inviting residents to a commemorative bike ride for World Breast Cancer Day on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Riders gather at 5:00 p.m. at the Plaza de la Reforma in front of City Hall, with departure set for 5:15 p.m.

The ride is part of the "Rodando Cancún" program and will loop through several avenues in downtown Cancún and the city's original founding district, according to the municipal announcement.

What to expect

  • 10 free mammograms, subject to a medical assessment, according to City Hall.
  • An information booth with health and wellness specialists, including oncologist Ricardo Ramos of Hospital Galenia and grief counselor Miguel Popoca.
  • Participants are asked to wear something pink.

The city says the goal is to promote women's health among both riders and Cancún residents at large.

Before you go: practical tips

The announcement does not mention advance registration, so anyone interested can simply show up at the meeting point early. A few suggestions:

  • Arrive early if you want one of the mammograms: there are only 10 and they require a prior assessment, so head to the booth as soon as you get there.
  • Bring a helmet, front and rear lights and reflective clothing: the ride starts at 5:15 p.m. and may end around dusk.
  • Stay hydrated and check your brakes and tires before leaving home.
  • If you ride with children, keep them next to you the whole way.

Why early detection matters

Mexico's official breast cancer prevention standard (NOM-041-SSA2-2011) recommends monthly self-exams from age 20, an annual clinical exam from 25 and a mammogram every two years for women aged 40 to 69. If you don't get a spot at the ride, you can request a screening at your IMSS or ISSSTE family clinic or at a state Health Ministry center; bring ID and, where applicable, your affiliation number.

Doctors advise against waiting for a campaign if you notice any change in the breast — a lump, dimpled skin, nipple discharge or a change in shape — and to seek care right away.
