Cancún's Municipal Clinics Top 38,000 Free Medical Services
The city's three medical units offer rapid tests, glucose and blood-pressure checks and electrocardiograms at no cost to families.
The Municipal Medical Units of Benito Juárez have provided more than 38,000 free health services so far under the current administration, the Cancún city government reported. They total 38,379 services, concentrated mainly at Medical Unit No. 1, with 32,215 visits; followed by Unit No. 2, with 5,654; and Unit No. 3, located in the Alfredo V. Bonfil district.
According to the municipal authority, these clinics serve as an accessible, no-cost option for people without social security coverage or those seeking care close to their neighborhood, with a focus on prevention and early detection of disease.
Services you can receive for free:
- Rapid tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis C, as well as the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test.
- Capillary glucose, blood pressure, weight, height and body mass index measurements.
- Resting electrocardiogram.
- Vaccination campaigns and health-promotion programs.
Early detection like this is especially valuable in a city with high rates of diabetes and hypertension: catching elevated glucose or blood pressure in time makes it possible to start treatment before kidney, heart or vision complications appear.
How to use the service: go to your nearest unit with an ID and, if you have them, your prior test results or prescriptions. For glucose tests it helps to arrive fasting. Before heading out, confirm hours with the Municipal Health Department, since some activities —such as vaccination or specific tests— are held on set days. The units also take part in brigades set up across different neighborhoods, so it is worth watching the city's social media announcements.
