Residents of Cancún's Region 93 report the closure of a children's park
According to Caribe Peninsular, the playground was fenced and padlocked and only opens from 3 to 8 p.m.; residents call it a privatization.
Residents of Cancún's Region 93 reported the closure of a children's park, which was fenced off and padlocked, according to Caribe Peninsular. Some residents believe the measure privatizes a public space.
Per the report, the playground has been closed since late June 2026 and only opens during a window of 3 to 8 p.m., meaning children cannot use it in the morning.
The two sides
The neighborhood committee president, identified as Rosy Novello, along with a group of residents, closed the play area and posted rules with the restricted hours. As described, the stated reason for the closure is to prevent damage to the park.
On the other hand, other residents argue the restriction infringes on children's right to recreation and that insecurity in the area persists despite the closure.
"The neighbors and the committee president closed off the children's play area with fencing and a padlock, and posted rules allowing it to open only from 3 to 8," the complaint states.
So far there is no reported official response from municipal authorities. In this section we follow up on residents' reports about public spaces in Cancún.
