IMSS plans six childcare centers in Quintana Roo; three slated for Cancun
Delegate Víctor Gasca Martínez said the CECI centers virtually have their land secured; the goal is to close files in 2026 and start construction in 2027.
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) is planning six Education and Childcare Centers (CECI) in Quintana Roo, three of which are already authorized for Cancun, with two more projects formalized for Playa del Carmen, according to the institute's state delegate, Víctor Gasca Martínez.
"We have six CECIs practically approved with land secured; we are in the same situation as the hospital sites, fine-tuning the final details," the official stated.
Beyond Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the IMSS is running technical validations on plots in Tulum and Cozumel for future centers. For Cancun, the long-term plan contemplates reaching 11 centers of this kind.
According to the delegate, each center would take about six months to build. The institute's goal is to complete the paperwork and secure the land before the end of 2026, so construction can begin in the first half of 2027. The project aims to keep pace with the growth of formal employment in the state and to support children's social and emotional development.
What it means for Cancun families
CECI centers are the model through which IMSS provides daycare services to insured working mothers and fathers. In a city where much of the formal workforce is tied to tourism, with shifts that start early, access to childcare is one of the services working families request most.
If you are an IMSS beneficiary interested in daycare services, you can check requirements and current availability at the official portal imss.gob.mx or at your local IMSS office; enrollment is processed with your Social Security Number. The newly announced centers do not yet have an opening date: their launch depends on files and construction moving forward on the described timeline.
