Cancún residents at a participatory budget workshop

The Benito Juárez city government begins co-creation workshops for the 2027 Participatory Budget this Tuesday, October 27, 2026. In these sessions, Cancún residents can put together proposals for public works and improvements in their neighborhoods. The first session, for Zone 1, runs 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Supermanzana 95 dome, the Municipal Welfare Department (Secretaría Municipal de Bienestar) announced.

According to the city government, the program has a total budget of 100 million pesos split among 10 zones of the city.

Who can attend today's session?

The Zone 1 workshop is for residents of supermanzanas 37 to 51, 53, 55, 56, 58, 59, 95 to 99 and 500 to 529. The city says attendees must bring valid official photo ID.

How to come prepared

The city did not list additional requirements for proposals in its announcement, but these practical tips can help a project pass the feasibility review:

  1. Pinpoint the problem: street, cross streets and supermanzana or region.
  2. Bring evidence: photos of the run-down park, the broken streetlight or the damaged sidewalk.
  3. Talk to your neighbors first: a proposal backed by several people stands a better chance in the vote.
  4. Pick a category from the official list and focus on a specific project, not a general request.
  5. Mark the dates: registration closes November 13 and voting ends in January.

If your supermanzana is not in Zone 1, check the city's official channels for the date and location of your zone's workshop.
