The Benito Juárez Council approved the program, swore in new Traffic and Tourist Police directors and donated three lots for high schools.

Benito Juárez City Council session in Cancún

Businesses in Benito Juárez with overdue payments or pending paperwork will be able to get up to date without paying fines or surcharges under the "Pon al día tu negocio" (Update Your Business) program, approved by the City Council on October 20, 2026, during its 51st Ordinary Session, the city said.

Who qualifies and what's covered?

According to the municipal government, the incentive applies to all individuals, companies and business units in the municipality and grants a 100% discount on fines and surcharges for procedures handled by:

  • Revenue (Ingresos)
  • Urban Image and Public Roads
  • Civil Protection
  • SIRESOL (waste collection)

The program runs from its publication in the Municipal Official Gazette through December 31. The city also said it will open its first business service office in the first week of November, offering personalized guidance.

"It eliminates 100 percent of fines and surcharges, because our government does not tolerate corruption," Mayor Ana Paty Peralta said.

What business owners should do

  • List your pending items: operating license, signage or public-road permits, Civil Protection approval and waste collection service.
  • Gather documents (RFC tax ID, proof of address for the premises, previous licenses and receipts) before going.
  • Don't wait until December: the waiver covers only fines and surcharges, not the base fees, and lines usually grow at year-end.
  • Check the Municipal Official Gazette to confirm the start date and rules.

Other council decisions

  • New police chiefs. Juan Carlos Alarcón Manríquez was sworn in as Traffic Police director and Ricardo Emmanuel Zamora Patiño as Tourist Police director. "We need you, and we ask you to be spotless, incorruptible officers," the mayor told them.
  • Land for high schools. The council unanimously approved donating three lots in supermanzanas 107, 217 and 258 to the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to build Margarita Maza National High School Centers.
  • HIV/STI regulation. A regulation was approved creating a municipal council to coordinate authorities, institutions and civil groups on HIV and STI prevention and care.
  • AGEPRO agreement. An agreement with the state property agency was approved to grant municipal tax facilities on state-owned properties.
