Mexico's tax agency SAT launches new online appointment system for refunds, debts and installment plans
An online calendar shows open slots before you go to an office; it covers RFC registration, e.firma, VAT and income tax refunds, and penalties.
Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) has rolled out a new electronic appointment system that lets individuals and businesses book audit, foreign-trade and collection procedures through its website, the agency said in press release 61/2026, issued Friday, October 23, 2026.
According to the SAT, the system includes an informational calendar showing appointment availability at its offices nationwide, so taxpayers can check open dates before booking and showing up.
What you can book
The tax authority said the new system covers, among other things:
- Audit services: guidance on VAT (IVA) and income tax (ISR) refunds, and on the restriction or revocation of the digital seal certificate used to issue invoices.
- Foreign trade: refund requests for amounts paid in error.
- Collection: guidance on tax debts, penalty reductions, payment of federal tax liabilities, and installment or deferred payment plans.
These are in addition to the offices' usual services, such as RFC (taxpayer ID) registration and e.firma (electronic signature) issuance.
The scale of demand
The SAT said that on average about 1,700 companies register for an RFC and 6,000 business e.firmas are issued each week, with more than 10,000 business procedures weekly. For individuals, the weekly figures are around 42,000 RFC registrations and 110,000 e.firma issuances. That workload is handled across 172 taxpayer service offices nationwide.
What it means for Cancún residents
For Cancún merchants, tourism service providers, landlords and freelancers, many of whom file as individuals, the change matters most for procedures that can't be completed online: clearing up a tax debt, getting a digital seal reinstated so they can invoice again, or arranging an installment plan. Checking the calendar before heading out helps avoid wasted trips and lines.
The SAT has stressed that most procedures no longer require an in-person visit: in mid-October the agency reported that 70% of its procedures are now completed remotely.
What to do
- Check whether your procedure can be done online. Before booking, look on the SAT website to see if you can resolve it without visiting an office.
- Check the calendar and book on the appointment portal: citas.sat.gob.mx.
- If you have questions, the SAT offers help through MarcaSAT at 55 627 22 728, chat at chat.sat.gob.mx and the OrientaSAT portal, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Bring your paperwork in order on the day of your appointment and arrive early; requirements vary by procedure and are listed on each procedure's page on the SAT website.
The SAT did not specify an end date or changes to the requirements for individual procedures; the system adds to its existing service channels.
