Cancun Traffic Department opens seven summer driving courses with 50% off licenses
From July 13 to August 29, theory-and-practice courses will be available for adults and teens 15 and up; adults who pass get a two-year license at half price.
The Municipal Traffic Department of Benito Juárez will offer seven "smart driving" courses between July 13 and August 29, 2026, open to adults and minors aged 15 and up, as part of its summer season programming.
Each course runs six days and combines two stages: theory classes from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Municipal Traffic Department offices (Xcaret Avenue at Kabah Avenue), and practice sessions from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the inner circuit of Lomas de Vista Hermosa, next to St. Johns school.
Benefits upon passing
- Adults receive their driver's license at a 50% discount, valid for two years.
- Minors obtain a responsible-driver permit valid for up to 180 days.
Requirements
- Adults: copy of voter ID and proof of address.
- Minors: birth certificate, photo ID, guardian's voter ID, proof of address, CURP, and they must attend with an adult.
How to sign up, step by step
- Gather the documents for your case.
- Visit the Road Safety Education Coordination office or call 998 189 05 10.
- Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Pick one of the seven available sessions; the first starts July 13.
Why it matters
Beyond the discount, the minors' permit is the only legal way for a teenager to drive in the municipality: driving without one can mean fines and having the vehicle impounded. For families, the summer school break is the natural window to complete the full course without conflicting with classes, and spots are assigned as groups fill up, so early registration is advisable.
