Cancún night ride this Saturday at Malecón Tajamar: bikes, skates and free activities from 6 to 9 p.m.
The second edition of the IMPLAN-organized ride opens a circuit on Bonampak Avenue July 18, with bike lending, a Latin rhythms class, a pet adoption fair and World Cup sticker trading.
Benito Juárez's city government, through its Urban Development Planning Institute (IMPLAN), will hold the second edition of the Paseo Cancunense Nocturno (Cancún Night Ride) this Saturday, July 18 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. near Malecón Tajamar, with a circuit along Bonampak Avenue.
The route is open to bicycles, skates, skateboards, tricycles and walkers, and admission is free. According to the city, the program aims to open streets to residents and reclaim public space for recreation, community life and active mobility.
What else is planned
- A bike-lending module for those without their own ride.
- A Latin rhythms class by Total Fitness 2 and music by DJ Wixel.
- Stands from women entrepreneurs in the municipal "Ellas Facturan" program.
- "Adopta Fest", a pet adoption fair with a deworming campaign.
- World Cup sticker trading for collectors of all ages.
Tips if you plan to attend
- Arrive early: loaner bikes are limited and handed out first come, first served.
- Even on a controlled circuit, bring lights or reflective gear for night riding, and helmets for kids.
- If you drive around Bonampak and Tajamar between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m., consider alternate routes while the event setup may alter traffic flow.
- Bring water: the state Civil Protection forecast puts the heat index at up to 40°C in Benito Juárez; evenings ease off but stay hot and humid.
The first edition also took place in the Tajamar area, and the city has said it wants to consolidate the ride as a recurring active-mobility program, along the lines of night rides already running in cities such as Mérida and Guadalajara.
