Tropical wave 17 brings rain and up to 40°C heat index to Cancún
Civil Protection forecasts showers with lightning and very hot conditions this Thursday; take precautions.
According to the weather bulletin from Quintana Roo's State Civil Protection Coordination (COEPROC), tropical wave number 17, combined with moisture from the Caribbean Sea, will keep cloudy skies, showers and lightning over the state this Thursday.
For Benito Juárez (Cancún), a maximum temperature of 35 to 37 degrees is expected, with isolated rain and showers and a heat index of up to 40 degrees, per the same report. In Playa del Carmen and Tulum the high would be around 32 to 34 degrees, also with rain and lightning.
The bulletin estimates rainfall of 5 to 25 millimeters across the state, east winds of 15 to 25 kilometers per hour with gusts of 30 to 50 on the coast, and waves of 1 to 2 meters. It is in effect from 06:00 on July 9 to 06:00 on July 10.
Civil Protection recommends staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, taking extra care on the road due to possible fog banks, and checking sea conditions before sailing because of the wind and waves. It is advisable to follow updates from COEPROC and the National Weather Service throughout the day.
