Cloudy skies and showers Monday in Quintana Roo: Civil Protection bulletin

COEPROC expects rain and thunderstorms from an upper-level trough combined with Caribbean moisture. Valid 6:00 a.m. July 13 to 6:00 a.m. July 14.

Cloudy sky with rain over the Mexican Caribbean

Quintana Roo's State Civil Protection Coordination (COEPROC) warned that on Monday, July 13, 2026, the state will see mostly cloudy skies with rainfall activity, after an upper-level trough over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and the southern Yucatan Peninsula combined with moisture from the Caribbean Sea.

The bulletin runs from 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, meaning residents and visitors across Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres should expect scattered showers and possible thunderstorms during the day and overnight.

What to expect in Cancun

Civil Protection did not issue a hurricane or tropical cyclone warning; this is a routine advisory for rain that can still cause flooding in low-lying areas of Benito Juarez —Regions 90, 100, 227 and 233 are the most recurrent— along with reduced visibility on federal highway 307 toward the Riviera Maya.

Official recommendations

  • Drive carefully and respect road closures that Municipal Transit may activate if an underpass floods.
  • Remove loose items from yards and balconies before wind gusts pick up.
  • Do not cross streets with strong currents or go into flooded underpasses.
  • Keep emergency numbers handy: 911 and municipal Civil Protection at 998 881 2400.

Some context worth remembering

July formally kicks off the rainy season in the Mexican Caribbean. According to the National Water Commission's annual forecast, 15 to 20 named cyclones are expected in the Atlantic between June and November. This trough is not one of them yet, but it is a signal that the atmosphere is already loaded with moisture. It's a good moment to check the family emergency kit —bottled water, flashlight, medications, documents in a sealed bag— and confirm a meeting point in case someone gets cut off.
